New Executive Director Joins India Community Center

The India Community Center has announced the appointment of Chitra Vivek to the post of Executive Director.

"The India Community Centeris undergoing enormous growth. I'm reallypleased to be involved with ICC at this stage of its development," said Vivek."The opportunity is interesting and challenging and I'm also very excited about working with and contributing to the Indo-American community," she said. Vivek succeeds Cathy Maupin, who served as ICC's interim Executive Director.


India Community Center chair Talat Hasan said: "Chitra's reputation for building great teams and her professionalism will be key to guiding the Center through its current expansion.I'm looking forward to working with her."


Construction is underway at the India Community Center's new Milpitas site, adjacent to its present facility. The new, 40,000 square foot facility will offer a number of new features, including an expanded health and fitness center, managed by Club One Fitness.

Vivek is a senior business executive with more than 15 years of management experience. She has held several senior management positions at Adaptec with a wide range of responsibilities from corporate strategic planning, business & sales operations to product marketing and account management. Prior to Adaptec, Vivek held management positions at OmniTel.


Vivekhas received several awards for her excellence and was honoree of the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry Award in 2004. She was born and raised in Chennai, India and has two children.

India Community Center - the nation's largest Indo-American facility - is dedicated to promoting Indian culture and enriching lives through educational, cultural, recreational and community programs. Members can enjoy ICC's fitness center, library, kids' learning center, computer labs, classes, cafˇ, and recreation area. ICC is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization funded by private contributions, membership dues, fees and grants and run by a small staff plus more than 200 volunteers.
