Volcanoes at the Library
The Fremont Main Library (Fukaya Room) will be erupting with knowledge on January 30, 2007, Tuesday when Joyce Blueford a geologist, from the Math Science Nucleus will read her new animated book called "The Fiery Slopes of Mt. Etna." The story is about the author and animator's (Doris Raia) grandmother who saved her young sister as the lava was approaching their village in Sicily.
The event will start at 7:00pm and last for 45 minutes. The program is geared for families with elementary school aged children. After the reading there will be four activities for children to participate in including looking at volcanic rocks from around the world, and taking home pieces of an ancient volcano from Clearlake.
This event was funded by LAM Research with a grant to Alameda County Public Library. You can read the story by going to the following lesson plan and click on the Storybook under Materials. http://www.msnucleus.org/membership/html/k-6/pt/hazards/3/pth3_1a.html
