Fremont city council report
A scheduled work session was packed due to the appearance of Lew Wolff, President of Wolff Urban Development and owner of the Oakland A's. The council heard a brief summary of plans to build a new, intimate ballpark in Fremont surrounded by a "village" development. Details were sketchy as Mr. Wolff repeatedly emphasized that plans were in the early stages. However, he did reveal that the ballpark will be built in partnership with Cisco Systems and would be "state of the art." A hoped for "accelerated process" was also noted by Mr. Wolff in his statements.
A Redevelopment Agency session followed in which the city council discussed continuing to negotiate exclusively with Charter Properties to see if agreement could be reached on building a retail only Centerville Market Place. Council voted 3-2 (Ayes: Wasserman, Cho, Harrison; Nays: Natarajan, Wieckowski) to continue exclusive discussions without inviting other developers to join the process.
Next meeting will be 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23.
