Submitted By Gary Leatherman
The Interact Club at John F. Kennedy High School is sponsoring an e-waste collection drive Jan. 27 from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the school parking lot at 39999 Blacow Road. Club advisor Trina Bega said the event is an opportunity for area residents to dispose of obsolete electronic equipment in an environmentally responsible way and to help students raise funds for service projects.
The club will recycle computer monitors, cell phones, televisions and ink jet cartridges free and will charge nominal fees for items such as cameras, computers, VCRs, printers, fax machines, copiers and microwave ovens. All items will be processed in full compliance with state and federal laws, Bega said.
The JFKHS Interact Club is sponsored by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Fremont. Proceeds will be used to support the Interact Club World Hunger Fund.
Bega said the event will proceed regardless of weather and contributions may be partially tax deductible. Anyone interested in further information should call (510) 590-7510.
