Union City’s Mayor Mark Green began the Tuesday, November 14 city council meeting with a “thank you” to Rosemary Savage for her outstanding service on the Planning Commission. Green then presented awards of appreciation to several local businesses and individuals in recognition of their support of October’s Make a Difference Day
Helen Kennedy, President of Union City’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee, then introduced initial plans for the celebration slated to run all of 2009. “We’ve adopted some core objectives and the most important one is that we want to promise a year of memorable events to the residents and families of Union City,” said Kennedy.
Ten sanctioned events are planned for 2009, beginning with a New Years Eve Gala on December 31, 2008. There will be a re-enactment of the incorporation of Union City, a Lunar New Year Celebration in the spring; a city wide parade and car show; a spiritual festival that will include members of all faiths; a day-long family summer event with fireworks or laser light show; a sports showcase; a diversity celebration; and a historical tour. The year will end with another New Years Eve celebration that will be more family oriented. Council agreed to consider a request from the committee $20,000.00 in start-up money.
Council approved a Resolution to Authorize Disbursement of a combination of Agency and Outside Source funds for Bart Phase 1A Site Improvements.
Following public comments, council adopted a resolution, held over from October 26, approving the issuance of mobile home revenue refinancing bonds by the California Mobile Home Park Authority for the Tropics Mobile Home Park. Council approved several other agreement amendments related to the bond issuance
