Community forum dates announcedby Rick LaPlante
Intent on offering parents and the community access to information and an opportunity to contribute their ideas, New Haven Unified School District is creating a Community Forum.
The New Haven Community Forum will meet for the first time Wednesday, November 8, starting at 7 p.m., at Alvarado Middle School, 31604 Alvarado Blvd. The meeting will be hosted by Superintendent Dr. Pat Jaurequi. All New Haven students, parents, employees and community members are invited to attend.
The forums are part of a series of initiatives to come out of the district's Strategic Plan, crafted last year by more than 150 students, parents, teachers, classified employees, administrators and other members of the community and approved earlier this year by the board of education. One of the five strategies called for in the plan is to create effective internal and external communications to build trust by involving members of the staff and community in the decision-making process.
"The Community Forum is the next step we are taking in our effort to better communicate with all of our stakeholders," Jaurequi said. "We started this process last year, with parent and student forums and our business and community forums. I was pleased that the Strategic Planning Team recognized the value of this kind of outreach and included it in the Strategic Plan."
Future meetings of the New Haven Community Forum are scheduled on the following dates (times to be announced):
- Tuesday, January 23 at James Logan High School
- Tuesday, February 27 at Barnard-White Middle School
- Tuesday, March 27 at Conley-Caraballo High School
- Tuesday, April 24 at Cesar Chavez Middle School
- Tuesday, May 22 at the Educational Services Center
