First Annual Middle School/Junior High School Volley Fest a Smashing Hitby Biff Jones
On Saturday, October 21, eight middle school/junior high girl’s volleyball teams competed in a Volley Fest (tournament) in James Logan High School's Pavilion. †Each match was hotly contested, but at the end of the day, Alvarado Middle School prevailed over Holy Spirit CYO's 8th grade team to win the Gold Division (23-25, 25-21, 15-11). Newark JHS defeated Bernard-White Middle School to win the Silver Division.
This all-day event, conceived by Logan HS girl’s volleyball coach Danielle Anderson to encourage and inspire novice volleyball players and to raise funds for the high school volleyball program, appeared to be a hit. Family and friends enthusiastically cheered on their teams throughout the day. The entire Logan Varsity girl’s team (with help from Parent Boosters) helped set-up the courts, staff a snack booth and volleyball logo sales table, refereed matches, and tallied scores.† Emphasis was placed on good sportsmanship and players were encouraged to try out for the Logan Colt’s Club Volleyball Team (Under-14 & Under-16 teams) open try-outs on Saturday, November 18, 3-6 p.m. in the Logan HS Pavilion (James Logan High School, 1800 H Street, Union City).
