Scream - Strikers match ends in drawby Paul Dunn
Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. on Oct. 7 brought together two mid-table teams with similar records. Scream struck first when Melody Chen slipped a perfect ball to Zarin Khan who hit a first time shot into the opposite corner completely wrong footing Strikers' goalie for her first goal of the season. Strikers had a goal disallowed for offside and, almost immediately after, Scream's midfielder, Rachel Heng dribbled the ball past several opponents before passing to Erica Ohye to score in the lower left corner of the goal to make it 2 -0.
The Strikers did not give up and pushed forward to get back into the game. Finally, Strikers took a free kick toward Scream's goal that the defense could not clear and Sammantha Holland poked the ball home from short range. Just before halftime, Strikers leveled the game 2-2 when Sarah Willhelm went on a good solo run down the left wing and cut inside to slot home a goal at the near post. In the second half both teams came out strong to try to get the winning goal. Ten minutes into the half, Scream goalie, Sarah Talooi made a superb diving save to deny Strikers a goal, and Scream's best chance came a couple of minutes later when Reema Agarwal took the ball from her own half all the way down the field only to see her shot go inches wide. Final score 2-2. |
