Scream put out Firefightersby Ed Ohye
On a wet and windy evening, last Wednesday, Sept. 4, Scream played The Firefighters under very difficult conditions. With the wind at their back in the first half, Scream dominated play and created a string of chances despite fierce resistance by The Firefighters' defense. Melody Chen finally broke the deadlock with two quick goals and Erica Ohye added a third with a clinical first time shot into the lower left corner of the Firefighters' net, leaving the goalie no chance. At the end of the first half, Selina Mahesri of Scream had a strong shot partially blocked by the goalie, only to see the ball miraculously make it over the goal line when it appeared the Firefighters' defense was going to clear it out of the penalty area.
The second half saw a more determined Firefighters team. After a series of attacks, they pulled a goal back with a quick move down the center of the pitch to make it 3-1. The Firefighters pushed forward for a second goal, but Scream's defense, consisting of Christina Kim, Maryam Khademi, Megan Dunn, Tina Kantaria, and backup goalie Sarina Utamsing, eventually settled down and shut down the Firefighters' offense. Although Scream had several good shots on goal later in the second half, the final score remained 3-1. |
