The men's team from Union City representing the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Northern California Section, finished fourth at the USTA League, 3.0 Adult National Championships held at the Randolph Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz., Sept. 29 - Oct. 1.
On Sunday, the 1st, the Union City team lost to a team from Columbia, Md., 4-1 in the third place match. In the semifinals played earlier in the day, the Union City team lost to a team from San Juan, Puerto Rico, 4-1. They advanced this far by winning their round-robin flight contested Friday and Saturday.
The team is captained by Monty Mun of Union City. Other team members include Eric Chua, also of Union City, Charles Rivera of Hayward, Xin Yao of Milpitas, Kevin Chen of Newark, Kyle Jones of Pleasanton, and Benjamin Chao Wong, Clifton Pang and Lee Wei, all from Fremont.
"We had a lot of fun. We're a public park team that came together and had a great season," said Mun. "It was really exciting to be here at nationals."
This year's League 3.0 Adult National Championship, which was sponsored by Chrysler, has drawn the top 34 teams (17 men's and 17 women's) from throughout the nation.
