Affordable housing development opens
Hayward: On October 6th, Hayward-based developer Eden Housing, Inc. and the City of Hayward will celebrate the Grand Opening of Sara Conner Court, a 57-unit affordable multifamily housing community that stands at the southern gateway to the city. This is Eden Housing's 22nd affordable housing development for the City of Hayward, where Eden had its beginning in 1968. The development, located at 32540 Pulaski Drive at Lafayette off Mission Boulevard, is named in honor of Sara Z. Conner, a longtime member of Eden Housing's board of directors and a well-known community volunteer who supported many local civic and charitable activities until her death in 2004.
Participating in the 12:00 noon ceremony will be Hayward Mayor Michael Sweeney and other City and business dignitaries. Sara Conner's family members will also participate in the event, and will be dedicating a Misch Kohn original print donated by the Kohn family in Sara Conner's memory.
The housing is specifically for households with incomes ranging from $17,400 for a one-person household to $61,620 for a family of seven, which are from 30% to 60% of the Area Median Income. Residents were selected by a lottery, and then qualified by credit and income requirements. Ground-level units are adaptable for people with disabilities. Eden Housing Management, Inc. (EHMI) manages the property and nonprofit Eden Housing Resident Services, Inc. (EHRSI) will provide resident support services & programs.
Rental applications for 2 & 3 bedroom units are available at the Sara Conner manager's office. |
