Children's, parents resource faireby Arnie Becker
Families and children are encouraged to come have fun at the fifth annual Children's Faire on Sept. 16. Sponsored by the Community Child Care Coordinating Council (4C's) of Alameda County, this free event gives parents access to, and information about the wealth of resources available through local community agencies: health care, legal aid, safety and housing assistance.
The 4C's exists to develop and coordinate resources to strengthen families and children and is committed to providing opportunities which maximize potential and nurture positive change for children, families, staff and child care professionals.
Participating agencies and organizations include the Alameda Alliance for Health, the California Child Care Health Program, Parents without Partners, Hayward Fire Department, Library Services of Alameda County Literacy, 4C's of Alameda County, the Scholastic Book Fair and the California Telephone Access Program, among many others. 4C's will also have a resource table to share information about the many child care related services offered by the agency.
Attendees are sure to enjoy the Prescott Circus, an entertainment troop that stole the show last year. Their wholesome, cheerful entertainment and energizing dance routines are all performed on stilts! In addition, they will offer lessons on juggling and face painting.
Children will enjoy the arts and craft projects provided by East Bay Depot - "Trash Transformations," MOCHA (Museum of Children's Art) and Lakeshore Learning Materials. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be there with children's games and prizes. This fun-filled day will also include food, entertainment, story time, and raffle drawings every half hour.
Last year was a huge success with over 500 parents and children in attendance. This is one of the few times when these various agencies come to one place and help the public become aware of their services and contact information.
The Children's Faire will take place in the parking lot behind the Washington Mutual Bank Building at 22351 City Center Drive, Hayward from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. For further information contact Hazel Knowles, Community Education/Special Events Manager at (510) 582-2182 or contact her via email at hazelk@4c-alameda.org.
