Bonfare Markets, Inc. a grocery store chain across Northern California with a location in Fremont and corporate offices in Hayward has been holding an Annual Golf Tournament for the past twenty years. This year the tournament was held at Silver Creek in San Jose, raised $102,000 for the Bonfare Market Charitable Foundation. The net proceeds of the event went to various charities in the local community promoting education.
For the first time, the San Jose Sharks were one of the key sponsors. That sponsorship brought the presence of Sharks defenseman Kyle McLaren and a team-signed jersey that was auctioned off for $2,400 dollars. "It is a great moment for us as it is for the Bonfare Market Foundation, which has been in the business of charity for 21 years in giving back to the community," said Charlie Faas, Executive Vice President and CFO of the San Jose Sharks. "We want to support The Sharks Foundation and our community schools," said Jag Kapoor of Kapoor Enterprises.
Former Golden State Warrior and still NBA star power forward Chris Webber, now of the Philadelphia Sixers, had his jersey auctioned off the same evening. Net proceeds from the evening's program will go to The Sharks Foundation, Silver Creek High School and other charities promoting education and improving schools in the local community. "Another beneficiary is the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation," said Harpreet Chadha, Chairperson of the golf tournament and President and CEO of Legacy Resource Groups.
Donald Kaplan, founder of Bonfare Markets was pleased with the turnout as well as with the collections at the fund-raiser. "I'm very proud for what has been done for charity," he said with delight when asked about the charity's growth since its founding in 1969. Anheuser_ Busch, Inc, JustLand.com, Legacy Resource Group, Expertquote.com, Pedros Restaurant, Mexicali Grill, Una Mas, X Protean, and Coca Cola Bottling Company of California, were other major sponsors of the event. |
