Firefighter Combat Challenge
Firefighters from all around the country will participate in Fremont's Festival of the Arts Firefighter Combat Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 5 and Sunday, Aug. 6. Challenge events are viewed live by millions of people worldwide during live competitions and local broadcasts. Wearing "full turn-out gear" and the SCOTT Air-Pak breathing apparatus, these firefighters simulate the physical demands of firefighting by performing a linked series of tasks including climbing a five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.
This is the 3rd year for the Fremont event held in conjunction with the Festival. The competition will be held on, Capitol Avenue and State Street in downtown Fremont. Teams will compete to quality for the ultimate victory at the 15th Firefighter Combat Challenge World Championships to be held in Henderson, Nev. from Nov. 7 to 11. Tens of thousands of competitors and spectators will attend Firefighter Combat Challenge events nationwide this year.
All firefighters, their families and friends are encouraged to come out and support these outstanding competitors. Spectators will see how the men and women in fire departments across the country perform in their daily routines to help save lives and protect their communities.
Since 1991, Firefighter Combat Challenge events have been held for thousands of U.S. and Canadian firefighters who compete at more than 25 locations in fitness events and demonstrate their profession's rigors to the public.
ESPN has called this event "The Toughest Two Minutes in Sports."
