LIFE ElderCare in Fremont has eight seniors who would like a "Friendly Visitor." The criterion for a visitor is simply two hours a week - all in the name of friendship, for at least six months. Volunteers can either visit at the senior's home or go out to lunch, for a walk, movie, etc.

I am a Meals on Wheels driver and can attest to the wonderful feeling of reaching out to a frail senior. (Lots of us drivers and visitors are seniors.) Seniors love babies and small kids so I am sure you could work something out if that's your situation. I used to do transportation when my kids were small and both the kids and the seniors loved the contact.
