Grooving at the Groveby Mona Shah
Before the dominance of recorded music and iPods, concerts would be the only opportunity one would generally have to hear musicians play. Here's your chance for some free musical entertainment during the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer. So pack a picnic lunch, bring a blanket and head to the Shirley Sisk Grove in Newark.
This year marks the 20th season of the popular Music at the Grove series, which begins July 2 with "Big Bang Beat" featuring dance music with a dose of modern rock and Motown's greatest hits.
This year's schedule includes:
July 2: Big Bang Beat July 16: The Fundamentals July 30: AJA Vu August 13: The Sun Kings August 20: U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West (5 p.m.) August 27: Papa Doo Run Run
All concerts are free and held on the green Sunday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. at Shirley Sisk Grove near NewPark Mall. Please note that the concert on August 20th will start at 5 p.m. There is plenty of free parking available. For more information, call (510) 742-4400.
