Nate Ivy named Teacher of the Yearby Gary Leatherman
Fremont Unified School District announced at its June 8 meeting that Irvington High School social studies teacher Nate Ivy has been selected as the FUSD Teacher of the Year. Ivy will represent FUSD in the Alameda County Teacher of the Year contest in the fall.
At Irvington High School, Ivy teaches social studies and coordinates the Service Learning Program. Ivy explains that Service Learning is a teaching strategy that requires students to exercise critical thinking skills in addressing a real problem. For the past two years, Ivy has also worked with a team of teachers to develop and implement the school's Small Learning Communities program, which helps students work closely with a small peer group within their school to reduce the effects of alienation on student performance and development. |
