East Bay Swim League: Treeview still accepting swimmers
by Praveena Raman
The Treeview Dolphins, one of 12 teams in the East Bay Swim League (EBSL), is still accepting swimmers for their 2006 summer season. Although technically a Hayward team, Treeview swims in a pool on the border of Hayward and Union City. The Dolphins have been East Bay Swim League Champions in 1976, 1977 and 1983.
EBSL is a recreational summer swim league in existence since the early 1970s, formed to provide young swimmers with an opportunity for summer recreation and competition, fostering sportsmanship, team spirit, cooperation and respect for others. The league consists of teams from Fremont, Newark, Hayward, San Leandro and Castro Valley. It is organized, managed and run by volunteer parents with professional coaches hired by teams to coach the children.
The league consists of 12 teams divided into a northern and southern division. The northern division consists of six teams, two from Castro Valley (Chabot and Columbia), two from San Leandro (Washington Manor and San Leandro), and two teams from Hayward (Southgate and Treeview) while the southern division consists of one team from Newark and five teams from Fremont (Glenmoor, Misison Highlands, Mission Valley, Warm Springs and Kennedy). Team membership is open to youth between the age of 5 and 18 yrs. Treeview will be coached by 27-year veteran, Bob Radecke.
EBSL season starts in the spring; some teams begin training in April while others begin in May. Dual meets between teams start at the beginning of June and take place once a week, usually on Saturdays, culminating in a championship meet at Chabot College between all 12 teams at the end of July. Dual meets end a week before the championship determining northern and southern division champions.
If you would like to participate in the East Bay Swim League, joining Treeview swim team presents a great opportunity this summer. The cost of participating on this team for the season is $182.00. For more information about Treeview contact Jessica Doerr at 510-441-8002.
