Orozco breaks school recordby James Orozco
Anthony Orozco, James Logan High-Mission Valley Track Club Pole vaulter broke his school record at The Bay Area Top 8 Meet. The record, held for 22 years by USA Olympian Dean Starkey at 15'2", was shattered as Orozco's vault of 15'3" put him into an elite class of vaulters.
This has been a goal of Orozco since his sophomore year when he captured the Logan's Frosh-Soph record at 13'1" previously held by Alex Gordon for 12 years. With that accomplishment, he was determined to capture the James Logan Varsity Record. That goal was realized as he planted his monster-size pole, rocked back and went upward for the ride of his life upside down gracefully turning his body at the peak of the vertical lift. He flexed his body and tossed his arms back to clear the cross bar, setting the new school record on his final attempt. |
