Applications accepted for technology committee

by Gary Leatherman

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education is forming a Technology Advisory Committee to help the district improve the application of technology to instruction and information management. The committee will be expected to help update the district technology plan; to facilitate technology-related communication and training among staff; and to consult in the management of data collection and assessment.

To accomplish those goals, the committee will need to assess the current infrastructure, hardware and software, identify existing services, identify potential resources and develop a plan of action.

The district is inviting community members who are interested in joining the committee to submit an application. The Board is expected to appoint the eight members of the standing committee in May. Committee members will consult with affected staff and community members as needed in the course of developing specific elements of the plan.

Applicants will be asked to describe their expertise and specific professional experience in a number of areas, including school technology needs; web-related technology such as HTML, style sheets, JavaScript and navigation models; web-based and n-tier architecture and applications; data integration and content management; network topology planning, capacity analysis and troubleshooting; database management; corporate-level support and help-desk functions; business and financial systems; educational technology and software; enterprise-level architecture and systems; requirements gathering, project management, budget, large-scale deployments and scheduling; program implementation and management with large, multi-site organizations; integrating multiple platforms and products; technology training; Novell and other groupware, email systems and shared file servers.

Additional information is available by phone at (510) 659-2542 or by e-mail at scoco@fremont.k12.ca.us.

The application form is available online at www.fremont.k12.ca.us on the Technology Advisory Committee page and at the reception desk at the FUSD Education Center. Completed applications should be mailed to the Superintendent's Office, FUSD Education Center, 4210 Technology Drive, Fremont, CA 94538 or faxed to (510) 659-2597.

Applications must be received in the superintendent's office by 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 26.
