The meeting began with the introduction of newly hired Senior Accountant Victoria Hernandez and Police Officers Michael Alum and Josh Horst. In addition, Steve Oldfield received a commendation from the Council for his eight years of service as a co-leader of the City of Newark and Newark Unified School District Strategic Plan process. Oldfield will be relocating to Southern California but he leaves his legacy of hard work towards improving the quality of Newark's public schools. Also, E. L. Musick School will be celebrating its 50thAnniversary on April 28. Principal Debbie Ashmore was present to accept the commendation.
Miriam Keller of the League of Women Voters invited the community to a Brown Act Training Session that will be held on Monday, April 24 in the Newark City Council Chambers.
The terms of Senior Citizen Standing Advisory Committee Members Deanna Martinez, Mel Nunes, and Bob Tyler expired on April 14.However, all three Committee Members wrote letters indicating that they were willing to serve another term and were thus reappointed by the Council at the meeting. The Council wished everyone a happy Easter and Passover. |
