Indo-American Charity Ball funds local charities for third year
Tri-City citizens will soon gather together to honor two organizations that have helped hundreds of citizens in need to stay in touch with the mainstream of our community. Indo-Americans for Better Community will host its Third Annual Charity Ball on Saturday, April 8 at the Hilton Hotel and amidst the chic and debonair event will raise funds for the Tri-City Homeless Coalition and Meals on Wheels. In the past two years, this event, plus matching funds from the Sobrato Family Foundation, has collected significant amounts for these programs - over $100,000.
The Tri-City Homeless Coalition (TCHC) provides shelter, meals and support programs to homeless people. A recent census in Alameda County found that about 47% of the homeless in Fremont, Newark, Union City, and Hayward are children. One of their programs, "Project Independence," prevents newly emancipated foster youth from becoming homeless. Another project, BridgeWay East is the only affordable housing development in Southern Alameda County to combine housing and on-site support services, a proven, effective mean of re-integrating homeless families into the community.
Meals on Wheels delivers over 350 hot, nourishing meals each day to home-bound elderly and needy residents of the Tri-City area. This volunteer program helps frail seniors be able to obtain healthy meals and maintain contact with others in the community. While not a free program, recipients contribute based on income level and many are unable to pay for the service.
Event coordinators, Drs. Rakesh and Ranjana Sharma invite the entire community to attend. Dinner reservations, table sponsorships, and donations are gratefully accepted. It is estimated that 300 guests including local leaders, physicians, businesses, and the community at-large will attend. Tax-deductible donations may be made payable to "Indo-American Charity Ball."
Indo-Americans for Better Community (IndoABC) was founded to share Indo-American values and culture through community services and charitable donations. IndoABC's mission is to serve and provide aid to homeless, poor, hungry and needy families and individuals. IndoABC volunteers are committed to making a difference in our local community.
