February 28, 2006 > Wrestlers move to section tournament

California School for the Deaf (CSD), Fremont hosted the Bay Shore Athletic League (BSAL) wrestling tournament on Friday, February 17th. Besides CSD, other schools participating were Albany, Athenian, Berkeley, John Swett, and St. Patrick's/St. Vincent's.

There were fourteen different weight classes at both the varsity and junior varsity levels. From these weight classes at the varsity level, the top three finishers from each weight class moved on to the North Coast Section (NCS) tournament this past weekend, February 24th and 25th, at Newark Memorial High School in Newark.

Led by head coach, Mike Estrada, CSD varsity wrestlers were Craig Wafer at 130 pounds, Justin Gaines 135 lbs, Eric Taylor 145 lbs, Dmitri Korolev, 152 lbs, Kyle Benedict 160 lbs, David Aguilar 189 lbs, and Nick Lopez 215 lbs.

Moving onto NCS were Benedict for finishing first, Taylor, Aguilar and Lopez for second place, and Wafer and Korolev as third place finishers. Congratulations to these wrestlers for a great season.
