New Haven Unified School District Board Briefs
The Board of Education on Tuesday night received a report on the Facilities Master Plan. The initial plan, or ``Blue Book,'' was a compendium of proposed projects totaling approximately $183 million that could be considered under Measure A, a $120 million bond approved by District voters in 2003.
Since January 2003, the District has completed the modernization of Cabello Elementary; construction of Conley-Caraballo High; classrooms and restrooms for severely disabled students, interim classrooms, modernization of forensics classrooms, tennis courts, resurfacing of the track, and fire alarm replacement at Logan High; and floor replacement in the kitchen and restrooms at Eastin Elementary, among other projects.
Projects under construction or on which designs have been completed include new classroom wings, basketball courts and a parking lot at Logan; an HVAC upgrade at Hillview Crest Elementary; and restroom modernization and construction of tennis court classrooms and restrooms at Logan. Several other projects - including modernization of Cesar Chavez Middle and construction of a new gym, construction of a performing arts center at Logan, and modernization of Pioneer Elementary - are under design and/or awaiting approval of state matching funds.
Also on Tuesday night, the Board approved the audited financial report from June 2005, approved a memorandum of understanding with the Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center, and enjoyed a ``beat box'' performance by Logan senior Stanley Wu.
