Hawks Beat Lightning and stay in competitionDecember 28 in Anaheim (game 2)
After the disappointing loss in the previous game we had to win against the Beach City Lightning in order to preserve our changes to make the semifinals. The Hawks came out determined and quickly scored on a power play. Oliver Takacsi-Nagy put the puck to the net through the five-hole from a play by Anthony Corini and Devin Corcoran (1:0).
Later in the first period we saw more scoring chances but we failed to put the puck past the Lightning's goalie. The Hawks continued to dominate in the second period but the Lightning had quite a few odd-man rushes. On one of the two-on-one opportunities they managed to tie the game (1:1).
The goal woke the Hawks up and they came back with a goal; Fletcher Krawczuk shot the puck to net, assisted by Jeffrey Hickey. Since winning this game was important for the Hawks they played defensively for most of the third period to hold their lead. As time passed the Lightning became more and more desperate and generated a lot of shots but they could not put the biscuit in the basket.
The player of the game award was given to goaltender Lauri Takacsi-Nagy, who played excellent and saved 18/19 shots. |
