Calling all turkeys...for a swim!by Tom Prusinovski
For the fourth year in a row, the Hayward Plunge Indoor Swim Center is holding its annual "Karen Gordin Turkey Swim" fundraiser on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 24th) from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Open to swimmers ages 15 and up, the morning lap swim event offers participants the opportunity to get in a little exercise before indulging in turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing and the rest of those carbs we enjoy every year! The Turkey Swim also offers door prizes and a lot of fun.
Entrance to the event is free although contributions to the Karen M. Gordon Scholarship Fund are gratefully accepted. Karen Gordon was an employee who died tragically in a car accident on her way to work at the Hayward Plunge Indoor Swim Center. In tribute to her and representing all of the qualities Gordon embodied, the Turkey Swim was created to raise funds for scholarships awarded to two or more college student lifeguards in Northern California. All aquatic staff at the plunge will be donating their time during the event.
In addition to the swim from 9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., two $1,000 checks will be awarded to the scholarship recipients, and throughout the morning participants may find they are the lucky winners of an assortment prizes and giveaways.
So if you love to swim, burn off some calories (before you pile them on) and support a worthwhile cause at the same time.
Karen Gordin Turkey Swim Thursday, November 24 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. Hayward Plunge Indoor Swim Center 24176 Mission Blvd., Hayward
