Newark City Council MeetingThursday, Nov. 10 by Susana Nuñez
Presentations and Proclamations
Every year the Optimist Club recognizes local youth for their efforts in the arts, athletics, academics, and community service work. A proclamation for Youth Appreciation Week was prepared and Marla Blowers with fellow Optimists was present at the meeting to accept it. Youth Appreciation Week will be observed November 14 through 20. In addition, the Interim Executive Committee of the Newark Chamber of Commerce was commended. The committee has worked to secure the longevity of the chamber since January 2003. This group, formed by locals, has turned the chamber back into a self-sufficient organization. Linda Ashley (CEO), Gloria Davis (Interim Manager) and members of the committee were present to accept the commendation.
The council also introduced a new councilmember at the meeting, Ana Apodaca, who will be taking Councilman Tong's seat. This meeting marked Tong's second-to-last council meeting.
