Distinguished Writers Series
Nationally acclaimed fiction writer and poet Jim Krusoe whose novel, Iceland, was voted as one of the 10 best fiction books of 2002 by the Los Angeles Times and the Austin Chronicle will lead the 2005-06 CLASS Distinguished Writers Series at California State University, East Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. The opening session will be held in the Biella Room of the University Library on the Hayward campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
"Krusoe gives experimental writing a good name. His fiction is accessible and moving," said Stephen Gutierrez, an English professor who coordinates creative writing at Cal State East Bay. "At the same time, it challenges outmoded forms."
The free writers series will continue in late February with Suheir Hammad, who appeared in the Broadway hit "Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam." Hammad has an international reputation as a performance poet. The series will conclude its first year with another author in April, in celebration of "National Poetry Month."
