Grappone was introduced to the council and the city of Newark at the meeting. Also, the Newark Days Committee was awarded a commendation for their efforts in organizing this year's special Newark Days, honoring the city's 50th anniversary. Held September 22 through 25, the council stated that the event lived up to Newark's motto of "People, Pride, and Progress." In addition, the Newark Days Committee has already begun preparing for next year's celebration, which has been set for Sept. 14 through 17. Next year's theme will be "Newark has it all."

The meeting adjourned in memory of Morris Hyman, founder of Fremont Bank and a well-respected member of the community. Hyman generously donated to various causes, including Ohlone College, home of the Morris and Alvirda Hyman Hall of Business and Technology. Hyman passed away on Oct. 17 and the council extended their deepest condolences to his family. |
