Blue Crush versus The Crush championship game

by Tammy Cox

On Monday, Oct. 24 Team #220 Blue Crush faced off with Team #225 The Crush for the championship game. Both teams played what ended as the most exciting game of the season.

The game was evenly matched with a score of 0-0 at the end of the first half and a score of 1-1 after the second half. After a three minute rest there was a playoff with two five minute halves that ended in a tie 0-0. Blue Crush won the game with a tie-breaking goal kickoff. Elizabeth Mooney made the solo goal for Blue Crush scoring on a direct kick.

All players from both teams played a great game. An outstanding job was done by our left and right forwards: Nishi Saksensa, Jocelyn Gordovez, Jenna Hamze, Chandidi Soni, Hannah Johnson, and Brianna Thornton. Katie Frazer and Alanna Mozzetti switched between center forward and sweeper, playing their hearts out. Erika Neave, Payal Makhijani, and Aishwara Thakur were wonderful as our left and right midfielders. Elizabeth Mooney and Paige Rath switched between center midfielder and center fullbacks, played an outstanding game. Claire McLaggen and Kellieanne Elliott played great defense as our right and left fullbacks. A great job was done by Jamie Camillo who was instrumental in keeping the score to a minimum.

Top players for Blue Crush were Paige Rath, Alanna Mozzetti, Elizabeth Mooney, Katie Frazer, Kellieanne Elliott and Jamie Camello. The girls will be heading to the Crossroads 24th Invitational later this month.

A big "Thanks" to coaches Mike Camello and Greg Mooney. Without their hard work and dedication these girls would have never made it this far.
