Fremont Chamber supports an equitable solution to north Fremont trafficby Billy Sandbrink
The Board of Directors for the Fremont Chamber of Commerce has taken the following position regarding Route 84 in northern Fremont.
The Fremont Chamber of Commerce supports all sides working together to find an equitable solution for an east/west project in northern Fremont. The Chamber will generally be supportive of a project in this area that 1) sufficiently relieves traffic congestion in the region (including Union City and Newark); 2) does not create negative traffic impacts within Fremont while neighboring cities feel no such impact; and 3) has a positive impact on businesses in the immediate area and the region.
The Chamber also fully supports AB 1462 being enacted into law. We applaud Assemblymember Alberto Torrico and Senator Liz Figueroa for passing this legislation which will help discussions on Route 84 continue and establish the framework for the Mission Boulevard/I-880 Interchange to be fully funded.
The Chamber supports Fremont submitting and the CTC approving a local alternative transportation improvement project (LATIP) for the Mission Boulevard/I-880 Interchange, allowing revenue from Caltrans-owned land sales to be used on the project.
The Chamber supports Caltrans bringing the existing Route 84 up to a state of good repair or better, performing any related traffic mitigation efforts in the area, and relinquishing control of the existing Route 84 to Fremont. |
