U10 Girls Division 1 FC Fremont StormSaturday, Sept. 17 Sunday, Sept. 18
FC Fremont Storm celebrated a successful weekend with back-to-back wins over the Pleasanton Rage (5-1) and the Newark Rush (3-1). FC Storm dominated and outplayed a physical Pleasanton Rage team in the fist game of the weekend. Fremont's Shelby Brown opened up the first half at 7' with a goal to the right lower corner of the net, assisted by Yvette Cuellar. The game's highlight may have come at 22' when midfielder Marisa Padilla broke a 1-1 tie with a spectacular header goal. The stunning score was set up by Anna Martin soaring bullet pass left from the right goal line. The stunned Pleasanton team never recovered. At 24', Nicole Stone knocked in a Megan Massone rebound off a hot shot the Rage goalkeeper failed to smother, making it 3-1 at the half. Fremont's Marisa Padilla and Megan Massone scored one more each in the second half to cap a convincing 5-1 win. Shelby Brown and Yvette Cuellar assisted. On Sunday, Fremont hosted the Newark Rush at home in Central Park. Newark just could not find a way to keep Fremont's unstoppable forward Megan Massone out of the goal. Megan scored a hat-trick and led Fremont to a 3-1 win over the Rush. Megan first scored at 6' of the first half weaving past defenders, unassisted. She struck again four minutes into the second half on a breakaway, and still again at 7' off of a corner kick. Fremont defender Janelle Herrera assisted on both of the second half goals. Storm outshot the Rush 21-2 in this game, and really turned up the heat on the hustling Newark team in the second half. Fremont's defense over the weekend was brilliant. Hannah Welker, Janelle Herrera, Shayla Funk and Sabrina Singh sparkled. Rock-solid Storm goalkeeper Donna Wingfield notched another 10 saves this weekend, all but one in the game against Pleasanton. |
