Newark City's 50th Anniversary Ball - A Very Special Eventby Sabrina Mahajan
The Newark Chamber of Commerce is organizing a ball to celebrate the city's 50th anniversary. This elegant yet fun-filled event will be held at Newark Hilton on Saturday, September 10th at 6:00 pm.
The musical talents of Mayor Dave Smith and the official city band, YOWZA, will kickoff the event by entertaining guests during the cocktail hour. The YOWZA band consists of who's who of past and present city employees: Police Captain Lance Morrison will be leading the band with Mayor Smith on trombone, City Manager A.T. Huezo on congas, Assistant City Manager Jim Reese the lead singer, City Attorney Garry T. Galliano on rhythm guitar, Brian Caminada, fire battalion chief, on drums, Gary Ownes, firefighter and paramedic, on guitar, Laurie Gebhard, Community Affairs Officer, on keyboard. Rebecca Blair will provide vocals and Jim Comfort, retired Fire Division chief, will be on bass.
The E-Ticket band will provide music during the dinner and for the dance. The euphonious talents of the City Planning Commissioner and candidate for the city council, Bob Marshall, will lead this band. E-Ticket, also known as "The World's Greatest 3-Car Garage Band," got together for the first time in the lead singer's 3-car garage more than 15 years ago. Their distinct brand of Rock, Rhythm, Blues and Soul has been a crowd-pleaser ever since.
The E-Ticket band will have Bob Marshall on vocal and trombone, Cliff White on keyboard, Bob Barry on saxophone/harp, Jay Turner on guitar, Bob Runnel on trumpet, Glenn Bolich on bass guitar and Sara Barreto-Worthing and Nicole Julian performing vocals,. More information about the band can be obtained at www.eticketband.com.
The menu, featuring Chicken Wellington with Marsala wine sauce, will be catered by the Hilton Hotel with a vegetarian alternative available. This is a black tie optional event. Table sponsorships are still available. There is a charge of $65 per person.
