The Peanut Hotline
Wondering what to do with all of those Styrofoam peanuts you received in your package? Call the Peanut Hotline, a 24-hour toll-free service for consumers to learn which local businesses accept plastic peanuts for reuse. The Plastic Loose Fill Council, a national trade association headquartered in Oakland maintains the Hotline which provides information on the use and reuse of plastic loose fill or packing peanuts. Call 800-828-2214 or visit www.loosefillpackaging.com.
The Mail Zone in Newark is now a Peanut Hotline collection center for EPS plastic packaging loose fill and will accept clean packing peanuts from local residents and reuse them in their outgoing packages. "By joining The Hotline, we are the first in Newark to provide our neighbors a convenient way to recycle peanuts," said Maria Luz Stolmeijer owner of The Mail Zone located at 7380 Thornton Ave. For more information call (510) 742 -6245.
