Firemen ignite passion for a good cause
Although these guys are noted for putting out fires, on the morning of July 4th they will turn up the heat. Newark Firefighters Association, Local #1483 volunteers will be at Firehouse #3 (Mowry & Cherry Streets) cooking pancakes and sausage served with orange juice and coffee. For the 4th consecutive year, in partnership with "Jerry's Kids," breakfast and an auction will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Last year, they raised $4,000. The group has raised its sights this year to reach a goal of $5,000. Along with breakfast sponsored by International House of Pancakes and Starbucks, guests can view antique and modern fire apparatus, watch a "Jaws of Life" demonstration, try their luck in a raffle and bid on valuable sports memorabilia.
Tickets are available at the breakfast but anyone who would like to buy tickets or give a donation in advance may visit the Newark Fire Administration office at 6170 Thornton Ave., Ste. D.
