The power of reading and literatureby Arathi Satish
Strolling around Mission San Jose High School (MSJHS) in Fremont there are many colorful and meaningful murals to be seen. These works of art were created at the urging of Edie Christensen, Mission's Fine Arts teacher. This year, she asked her students to create a mural at the request of the school's English department, highlighting the power of reading and literature.
Various designs were presented by students and the English department selected the one they felt most appropriate. The mural, when completed will be 24.5 feet long by 9 feet tall depicting the imaginative power of reading and literature; a boy reading while imagining a fiery phoenix, a mermaid reading and a young student reading in a quiet meadow with flowers and a stream.
MSJHS students working on the mural are Helen Liu, Stephanie Liao, Florence Tsai, Cecilia Chang and Stephanie Chou. The mural will be completed soon and Edie Christensen invites everyone to come and take a look. |
