May 24, 2005 > Irvington Conservatory Theatre auditions set for May 31

Students from any Fremont Unified School District school who are interested in the performing arts and will be in kindergarten through grade 12 in the 2005-06 school year are invited to audition for the Irvington Conservatory Theatre. Auditions will be on May 31 at 3 p.m. in the Irvington High School Valhalla Theater, 41800 Blacow Road.

The ICT is affiliated with FUSD and also offers students academic credit through Ohlone College. Participating students continue to attend classes at their home school and rehearse for ICT productions after school and on weekends.

Director Jennifer Bell said the ICT will produce a stage play and a spring musical during the 2005-06 school year. She said students who are accepted for ICT will be guaranteed a part in at least one of the company's major productions and will participate in other shows throughout the year.

Students auditioning for the spring musical should come ready to sing, dance and act, she said. Singers should be prepared with 16 measures of a song and bring their sheet music. If they do not have a song, they can sing Happy Birthday.

For the dance portion, performers will be taught a combination during the audition and asked to perform it. Musicians auditioning to play in the orchestra for the musical should come prepared to demonstrate their instrumental skills.

Actors who only want to perform in the stage production can bring a passage from a script to read or may read from one of the scripts under consideration for the ICT season.

Students who are interested in technical work such as sound, lighting, costuming or set design and construction also should apply during the audition period. Training for technical work will be provided.

The May 31 date will be the only opportunity for students to audition for ICT. Anyone with questions about the conservatory or the auditions should contact Ms. Bell at (510) 656-5711 x 46-423.
