Scout leaders recognizedby Scott Evans
On Saturday, May 6, over 100 local Scout leaders attended the Mission Peak Scouting District Annual Adult Volunteer Recognition Dinner at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City.
According to Bob Doherty, the event's Master of Ceremonies, "The Annual Mission Peak District Dinner was a great celebration. The East Bay Scout Band serenaded at start of the evening and Crew 2 once again prepared a fabulous meal. There was a great silent auction to raise funds for the Scouting programs."
This year, the district, which represents Fremont, Newark, and Union City, presented five District Awards of Merit for outstanding volunteer service and achievement to the following individuals: Lynda Brown, Committee Member Troop 103; Janis Tipton-King, District Member at Large and Troop 103 Assistant Scoutmaster; Jeannette Weaver, Committee Member Troop 2, Dan Welch, District Commissioner and Troop and Crew 106 Committee Member; and Garrett Yee, District Chair and Committee Co-Chair Troop 176.
In addition, 10 plaques recognizing outstanding service were presented to: Paul Abrahams, Advisor Venturing Crew 176; Bart Anderson, Scoutmaster Troop 197; Paul Hillar, Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 449; Steve Maricle, Mission Peak District Member at Large; John Pedersen, Committee Member and Immediate Past Chair Troop 110; DeWayne Quock, Committee Member Troop 176, Bruce Schlobohm, Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 176; Tom Sims, Committee Chair Troop 110; Chris Smith, Assistant District Commissioner; and Barry Willis, Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 176.
