Senior Moments - A Leadership Fremont Success
Each class of Leadership Fremont, a program designed to learn about the city's infrastructure, designs and develops a community service project. This year's class decided to focus on volunteerism for senior citizens. The result is a first-class video production highlighting three programs - Meals on Wheels, Friendly Visitors and the Fremont Senior Center. With the help of Edit One, the world premiere was held at the Fremont Senior Center during the Volunteer Recognition "Ice Cream Social."
Members of Fremont Fire Department Station #1 & #3 were on hand to dish out the ice cream followed by an introduction of the Leadership Fremont team members by David Langer of BFI. The 12 minute film, Senior Moments followed and was riveting, easily capturing the hearts and minds of those in attendance. Plans are for an initial supply of 100 copies to be available for businesses and groups that wish to explore the benefits of volunteerism in the community. A packet of information and resource material will accompany all copies of the film. The Leadership Fremont class continues to raise funds to supply all who request a copy of the film the opportunity to view it. "Senior Moments" emphasizes the "win-win" character of volunteerism and the informational packet emphasizes that many times, a small time commitment reaps large rewards.
The current Leadership Fremont class includes: Shannon Antepenko (Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation), Christopher Brown (Washington Hospital), Ming Chung (Rina Accounting), Pamela Fong (NUMMI), Barbara Jenkins (Weekenders), David Langer (BFI), David Lowman (New England Financial) and Stefanie Pavis (BFI). Pat Mayfield served as class facilitator.
The Leadership Fremont class of 2004 wishes to acknowledge the support of BFI, RINA Accounting, NUMMI and Washington Hospital. Others who gave valuable support to the class project include Edit One, Longs Drugs, Safeway Corporation, Cindy Bonior and Pat Mayfield Consulting, LLC.
