Presentations and Proclamations Rick Olesky will retire from his position as Public Services Supervisor after eight and a half years of service. Olesky was commended by the council for his dedication to the city of Newark. Next on the agenda, the staff proclaimed April 2005 as National Volunteer Month in Newark. In addition, April 28, 2005 was proclaimed Arbor Day in Newark. The National Arbor Day Foundation has recently named the city a Tree City U.S.A. for the 18th consecutive year. May 15 to 21 was proclaimed National Police Week in Newark, as well. Congress and the President of the United States designated May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. A proclamation was prepared in honor of law enforcement officers past and present who have served Newark, and police Chief Ray Samuels accepted the proclamation.
Council Matters Councilmember Sue Johnson thanked the staff, council, and community for their cards, letters, and e-mails of condolences for the recent passing of her mother. |
