Dance Festivalby Mark Bush
Over 750 youth will perform 15 dance and 5 specialty numbers in Sunnyvale at Dance Festival 2005 on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. The performers, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, come from South Bay cities and among them, 114 will represent Fremont and Newark. Each area has chosen to portray an era of dance from the 20's through present day.
The festival, free and open to the public, will begin with a flag ceremony by Eagle Scouts representing each city. Fremont and Newark performers chose the 50's and will rock the stadium with a swing-dance routine to the music of "Rock around the Clock," choreographed by Cheri King, wife of International Rotary President Richard King, and Brenda Daniels, a church youth member.
A full orchestra/band, with members from the Fremont/Newark area, will accompany dance numbers.
During the finale, church youth will be joined by 200 missionaries (ages 19 to 21) from all over the world who are currently serving 10 to 24 months in the South Bay. The performance is expected to last for 1 1/2 hours.
