U-12 American Travel Baseball Team Recap

U-12 American travel baseball team TABU of Fremont, finally was able to get in a Super Series tournament at Rainbow Fields in Modesto. With all the rain that we have had, a lot of the tournaments had been canceled. In the Spring Shoot Out tournament. TABU took third place.

TABU lost to the Headfirst Gamers 4 - 3 in extra innings in the playoffs. The Gamers scored first in the bottom of the second inning. At the top of fifth TABU got their first run to cut the lead in half. Chaz Meadows got on by an error on the right fielder; Meadows ended up at second. Chris Flexen SAC bunt Meadows to third and then Chad Highberger bunted Meadows in. The second run came when AJ Vanegas hit a towering 250-foot home run.

In the top of the seventh inning, Rudy Artero hit a single. Meadows struck out for the first out. Flexen hit a single and advanced Artero to second base. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Highberger struck out for the second out. With two outs, Artero was on third and Flexen on second. Flexen was caught leaning to third a little too far and got caught in a pickle. During the pickle Artero was able to score.

TABU now had the lead 3 - 2, but, the Gamers came back in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to win. Vanegas pitched an outstanding game for TABU. David Morgan went 2 for 3, a single and a double.

The tournament started out wet and windy and stayed that way the whole weekend. TABU just wasn't ready for this type of weather for the first game. They lost to Roseville Red Dogz of Sacramento 11 - 1. Morgan singled and doubled and scored the only run for TABU. The run came from Jarrett Costa's single.

After the loss Saturday morning, TABU exploded for the next two games, outscoring their opponents 21 to 1.

Beating the Brets' Muck Dogs from Reno, 10 - 0, the winning pitcher was Kevin Drago. Drago faced 15 batters. He pitched a no hitter complete game (four innings, run rule came in effect). He walked three and struck out four batters. Zach Yawornisky had a double and two RBI's. Morgan also hit a double.

Sunday morning, TABU faced the Sonora Elks and won 11 to 1. The winning pitcher was Blade Kurilich. Kurilich faced 17 batters and struck out five. Moe Miranda scored twice had two RBI's and had a double.
