Flying Fish Shine at Zonal Championship Meetby Praveena Raman
Flying Fish swim team from Club Sports of Fremont had a strong start in 2005. They placed second in the USA Pacific Swim Zone 2 Short course winter championship meet on Feb. 12 and 13. Fremont Flying Fish placed behind San Ramon Valley Livermore Aquatics, but were ahead of the Concord Terrapins, Orinda Polar Bears, Walnut Creek Aquabears, and the Pleasanton Seahawks. The eight and under boys and girls relay teams won the free style and medley relays. Swimmers Andrew Ho, Vanessa Wang, Ashley Hsu (eight years and under); Justin Ho and Alexander Yaung (nine and 10 year olds); Brent Hsu (11 and 12 year olds); Jennifer Bone (13 and 14 year olds) were selected to participate in the All Star swim meet on March 6 based on their outstanding performance at the zonal championship meet. Flying Fish's star swimmer Rohan Patnaik placed first in the 50 fly event with a time of 25.78 creating a new pacific swimming record for that event.
The Flying Fish swimmers will compete in the All Star Meet at Independence High School, 1776 Educational Park Dr., San Jose on March 6.
