Bay Aerials Win First Place at Hard Rock Invitational

The Bay Aerials Gymnastics team competed at the Hard Rock Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona Feb. 4- 6 where 56 U.S. Aerial Gymnasts (USAG) clubs from 18 states attended the competition, totaling 1000 young women ages seven to 18.

The Level 7 team competed first on Saturday afternoon. The team won first place honors over teams from Georgia, Arizona, Minnesota, Oregon, California, Virginia and Pennsylvania. In the senior division Lena Liu from Fremont placed first with an all around score of 37.650. Her teammates were close behind with Alex Buttars placing third, Shenel Harris fourth, and Stefeni Gyulai fifth, in the all around competition. They are all from Fremont. Lena Liu took first on vault, bars and beam. The team swept the floor competition. Shenel Harris was first with 9.5, Alex Buttars second with 9.4 and Stefeni Gyulai and Lena Lui tied for third with a 9.3.

In the junior division, Katlin Dore from Newark placed third in the all around with a score of 36.950 and Katie Biddle of Fremont was close behind with a score of 36.275 in seventh place. Trina Duarte of Fremont was in her first competition of the season due to injury.

The Level 9 team competed Saturday evening. They also placed first in the team competition defeating teams from Florida, Washington, Wisconsin and Arizona. Emily Ota of San Ramon won the senior division, placing first with an all around score of 36.600. Jennifer Mueller of Fremont placed third with 35.125 and Kelsey Romoser from San Ramon placed sixth, scoring 34.125. Emily Ota placed first on vault and bars and Jennifer Mueller had a strong 9.3 on beam for third place.

In the junior division, Amanda Spinner of San Ramon won first place with an all around score of 36.400 and Ashley Morgan from Danville was close behind in second with 36.225. Amanda Spinner was first on bars and floor. Ashley Morgan was first on vault and beam.

The Level 8 team competed on Sunday morning. Keeping pace with the other levels the 8's placed first in the team competition lead by Lyndsi Mark of Fremont with a first place all around score of 36.875. Kaylee Masatsugu of Fremont was third in the all around with a score of 35.950. Lyndsi Marks was first on beam with a team high 9.5. Kaylee Masatsugu placed first on floor with 9.450.

In the junior division Taryn West of Hayward placed second in the all around with a score of 36.600 and Lanie Ota of San Ramon placed third, scoring 36.075. Taryn West was first on floor with a 9.5 and Lanie Ota was first on beam with 9.5. Realyn Corpuz from Milpitas scored second on bars with 9.1.

Special awards were given to the All Around Champions. Four Bay Aerials gymnasts Lena Liu, Lyndsi Mark, Emily Ota and Amanda Spinner received leather Hard Rock Cafˇ jackets.

The coaches, Lisa Aguirre, Neil Gallant, Maria Traggio and Rod Radunzel, received awards for their outstanding coaching.

Having competed in San Jose, Reno, Sacramento and Phoenix, the team's next competition is the Wine Country Invitational in Rohnart Park in Feb. 19-20.
