Navidad in Mexico Performed by Ballet Folkl—ricoby Susana Nuñez
Ballet Folkl—rico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno (BFM) proudly presents Navidad in Mexico, or Christmas in Mexico. With a reputation as one of the most authentic folkloric dance companies in both the United States and Mexico, BFM will bring their talents to the Performing Arts Center of Chabot College. With unquestionable skill and gorgeous traditional costumes, the BFM performance is not to be missed.
Founded in 1967 by Carlos Moreno Samaniego, the Oakland based company started with only 12 teenagers. Over the years, those 12 teenagers grew to over 60 dancers, most of whom perform with the Ballet on a full-time basis. The group's repertoire consists of over 172 pieces from different regions of Mexico, including the famous El Zapateado and Jarabe Tapatio. From Veracruz, to Guerrero and Sonora, the organization brings the rich culture of Mexico to life with their impeccable footwork and colorful attire. Their annual Christmas in Mexico is only one of the many performances the group gives during the year. BFM participates in local and regional festivals and performs for privately sponsored events year-round. They also do daytime performances for schools in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area as a part of their artistic mission.
All are invited to celebrate Christmas in a truly traditional Mexican style. Bring the whole family and enjoy a performance by one of the most renowned dance groups. The Navidad in Mexico performance dates are Friday, December 10 at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 11 at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 12 at 2 p.m.
