Chabot College Presents La Posadaby Susana Nuñez
Proudly called a "Christmas comedy for the whole family," La Posada (The Inn) has arrived at Chabot College. This year marks the third annual production of La Posada, by Jose Cruz Gonzalez and directed by Linda Amayo-Hassan. The performance is open to everyone, and adults and children alike will enjoy the fun-filled play in the spirit of Christmas.
The story follows Aurelio and Anita, an elderly Mexican-American couple, as they prepare their home to receive guests celebrating Las Posadas. This traditional Christmas custom involves the entire neighborhood reenacting the Holy Family's journey seeking shelter. As they prepare for the celebration, Aurelio and Anita recall their first encounter and magically go back in time together. The audience will see them fall in love and get engaged, but trouble brews as they face El Ni–o, Anita's former fiancˇ. He dislikes the idea of an "Americano" wooing away the girl who once belonged to him. This Mexican macho refuses to accept defeat and so he and Aurelio have a face off. The hand of Anita now depends on which man can out-eat the other in a spicy "chili" eating showdown. Filled with music and nostalgia, the production is sure to live up to past performances.
Show dates are December 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 p.m. Additional matinee dates are Saturday December 11 and 18 at 2 p.m. The play will be performed in the Little Theater, Building 1200. Ticket prices are the same for all shows; $5 each, but for a family of three or more the price is $15. No advanced reservations are available as the public is encouraged to arrive half an hour early to purchase tickets as well as participate in Christmas carols and holiday cheer.
