November 23, 2004 > Frances Valesco Umbra/Penumbra
Frances Valesco Umbra/Penumbraby Heidi Leung
Frances Valesco has been into art since the age of five. Using all sorts of media, such as painting, drawing, printmaking and textiles, she creates poetic abstract images. She draws inspiration through her community work, always changing with the different issues that have affected her. Her most recent collection, displayed at Ohlone College's Louie Meager Art Gallery, consists of printmaking, painting and dye techniques on paper and canvas. It was a lovely collection filled with colors and layers of meaning associated with change and hardships that she has seen or experienced. It's appropriately titled Umbra/Penumbra after a physics based lighting scheme which describes the way an object is partially lighted in one area and completely covered by shadow in another. The exhibit is presently showing through November 19. |
