Free Children's Programs at Newark LibraryChildren's Book Week - Homework Help for School Aged Students by Kat Blair
November 15-21, 2004, is Children's Book Week, although we will celebrate all month long with a children's book swap in the lobby. Bring your used children's books and trade for someone else's.
Saturday, November 20, 2-3 p.m. (closing Children's Book Week) Newark Library will have a Shared Cultures Workshop for children where we will share multicultural stories, dancing to folk rhythms, and face painting from many cultures to teach the beauty of diversity.
Tuesday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m., the Newark Library P & T Puppets will conduct an evening of fun by putting on a version of Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories" just for us! This free program is jointly funded by Mervyn's and the Alameda County Library Foundation.
Homework Help for School Aged Students continues on Tuesdays-Thursdays, at 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in the Young Adult section. Free help is available to junior high and younger students by high school (or older) tutors. We will not be open for help on November 11 and November 26. For more information, or to volunteer to tutor, contact Kathleen Hannon by e-mail at khannon@aclibrary.org or (510) 795-2627 Ext. 18. This free drop-in program is funded by the Alameda County Library Foundation.
The library is wheelchair accessible and an ASL interpreter may be arranged by calling the library at least 7 business days before the event or T.D.D. to (510) 744-1973. Registration is not required for the above free drop-in programs.
