Resilience Workshop for Parents of Teens Set for Nov. 17by Gary Leatherman
Parents of Fremont teens are invited to a free evening workshop Nov. 17 to learn how parents can help teens develop the emotional resilience they need to respond appropriately to the challenges and frustrations of growing up. The workshop is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. in the Irvington High School library, 41800 Blacow Road.
The workshop is the second of two designed to help families manage the normal ups and downs of teen life and to recognize more serious emotional problems. The first workshop focused on improving communications between parents and teens and how to find help when it is needed. Although some of those points may be reviewed, each workshop is self-contained. Participants need not to have attended the first workshop to get full benefit from the second.
The Fremont Chamber of Commerce, The Fremont Unified School District and the City of Fremont are collaborating to present the workshops through a grant the Chamber secured from the Iris Alliance Fund, a national mental health foundation devoted to teen mental health issues.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Sharada Bise and Marriage and Family Therapist intern Elaine Culverwell from the Fremont Youth and Family Services Division are scheduled to conduct the workshop.
