Rock'n for Education
The Ohlone College Smith Center Presents is featuring Oxygen, an acoustic rock band with multi-part harmonies, on Friday September 17, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in the Smith Center Amphitheatre. Oxygen hails from Omaha, NE, hometown of 311. They opened for Incubus last summer and played with the guitarist from Maroon 5. Oxygen's style falls somewhere between Jars of Clay's rock-stomps and the wandering melodies of Counting Crows.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Maggie Morrison Endowment and the Speech & Communication Studies Department. Dr. Maggie Morrison was Ohlone College's first Speech Communication faculty member. She retired in 2000 after 27 years of service. She was one of the college's most beloved professors and many former Ohlone students visit campus and remember her kind nature and the lessons she taught about relationships in her Interpersonal Communication course. The Speech & Communication Studies Department will name their newly developing Speech & Communication Studies Lab after Dr. Morrisson Endowment and can be reached at (510) 659-6020.
Opening for Oxygen is Chalk Dust, also an acoustic rock band. Members include Professors Jeff O'Connell from the Math Department and Mark Brosamer from the English Department. "This is a fun way to support one of Ohlone's long time professors," said O'Connell.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Smith Center Box Office at (510) 659-6031 or at www.smithcenterpresent.com. |
